Evolve to a higher level of hip hop

Evolve on Weird Magazine     Evolve is not Just Another Face In The Crowd on his second independant release which is a visual soundscape of beats. Classy and unique are the first two words that come to mind when trying to pin point the wide variety of influences and styles combined seamlessly for this Boom Bap Masterpiece.
Donna Texas native Sergio Hernandez aka Evolve told us he started trying different directions, production styles and working with different subject matters which is evident in songs like 'Chemical Reaction' and 'Flow Unorthodox'. The lyrics to Chemical Reaction can be defined as post-apocalyptic hip hop talking about unearthing new species and subterrainian dwellers, it will rap around your brain and will do it with ease. But don't think he's stayed off the streets this man is made from scratch he is hip hop's Frankenstien with praise for 'Culture Kings' and a distaste for 'Deception', stand out tracks include the boom-bap ballad 'Zion's Theme' (Always Coming Home)' and my favorite 'Some People'

" Were all people we all make mistakes, see life in a different way need different things and go our own seperate ways"

Lumberjack

Upon listening to my recently obtained 'Flowers EP' over the weekend I can say this is the album for your weekend, the ambien toned product released by Lumberjack offers only positive side effects. From the introduction to second or third time playing the ep you may drift slowly from one end of the room to the other, while the tunes hint quietly towards the future the electronic keyboard tones recall past memories or experiences. 'Drop It', 'Word Up' and 'Willsmith' provide mid-tempo grooves while slowly standing still, recommended for fans of Washed Out, Toro y' Moi , sleeping during the day and lucid dreaming

Anti-Easter Show at the Gargajo

Desperation Bends and Conquest of Bread got together with a couple friends to make it a funday Sunday

Thursday Jan 21
Acid Reflux, Regulate, Konflicto, Conquest of Bread

So this band called Acid Reflux is raging off inside this middle school auditorium turned punk-fest and people are jumping off the speakers and there was beer everywhere. This New York krust punk band has been driving for weeks through all sorts of bars and houseshows maybe even county fairs so, yeah they tore it up.
The line up that night was fast and fierce upon arriving thirty minutes late I missed two bands Sharktooth and Keg Party who informed me of changing members and writing material. Up next were the soothing sounds of Regulate, the aggressive three piece took action with menacing speed and sharp riffage, Danny the singer let me know there was an album coming out soon and to watch for it because it will destroy my stereo.
The Rumors and Headlines kept the kids hoppin with some really catchy pop-punk stylings right before Conquest of Bread thundered into the room with a mix of bludgening krust metal and Death Row breakdowns. The floor had to be mopped in between sets from how beer soaked it had become and left a shiny reflection that beckoned some asses to slam and join it.
Konflicto took the stage and the place turned into a riot. The electricity was undeniable as our guests from Reynosa refrained from destroying the building reminding us the venue was rented.

Spies Like Us, Channel One, Keg Party, IFV, Sharktooth

When was the last time you were at a ska show? I hadn't been in a while, there were a lot of good bands on the bill and there were great performances that night making a mixture of punk rock and rocksteady everybody could get down to. There may have been an issue with over booking seeing as some bands played for less than desirable amounts or bumped for time, their was a sprinkle of hardcore with a swift but deadly set by Sharktooth and the bludgeoning sound of Trust In Blood Valley Texas Hardcore. Keg Party brought the ruckus in the form of a three chord shouting match and loosened the crowd up for what would be a fluid, jazzy and almost tribal ska set from Spies Like Us (below) from San Antonio.

It might have been Keg Party's abruptness and the umpteen microphones on stage that lead everybody to feel there was a long set up time in between the groups also the cold weather outside just demanded to get people dancing. Then it started like the motor on a Chevy, the venue came alive with the bouncing and the skanking of boys and girls alike. For those that don't know 'skanking' resembles a kind-of toga party, soccer kicking-type dance done to an upbeat, really quite fun once you get it going. There was an upstroke of energy with every organ-filled, horn blasted note that sent everybody on the same hopping adventure.   The rudboy styles of the Spies Like Us were really an awesome fair well to the Christmas break, thanks to the singer (... I think) for the cd trade (some people be's brokes) they gave us a cd at the door but I couldn't leave without getting y'alls album. Channel One slowed the tempo down a notch and boogied through some great songs with a great cover of the Folgers coffee song
After all the energy from the upbeat ska left the room Rey from IFV took the stage and continued to fight. Their was a reccent loss of life in our circle of friends, it reminds you of how powerful your brothers, sisters and family are, how powerful your life is and how a strong, willing and awesome person is not by your side at the house, at a party or jam practice. Here's to Shit Life. IFV (below)

Big ups to Fly on the house warming, sorry someone stole your record, can we still party there?, Please. Good seeing the Wolf (I'm stopping by your work soon) and cool meeting Andy from ATX, thanks for the burn and isn't Slash great? Guns and Roses - Estranged

South Texas Black Metal

I grew up in Weslaco Texas ten years ago during the height of Pantera, Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, Columbine era, the first time I heard Cannibal Corpse on a walkman, I thought the band was trying to out-bark a blender. The town doesn't really have a rock / metal type venue so it's not unlikely to see a massive cave-man type lead singer in your living room interrupting your game of 2k3. STBM hosted an end of year show (Dec 20th) featuring the areas line up of bands with latin names and earbleeding riffs, the weather was perfect and the bass was tasty.
