Acid Reflux
The line up that night was fast and fierce upon arriving thirty minutes late I missed two bands Sharktooth and Keg Party who informed me of changing members and writing material. Up next were the soothing sounds of Regulate, the aggressive three piece took action with menacing speed and sharp riffage, Danny the singer let me know there was an album coming out soon and to watch for it because it will destroy my stereo. The Rumors and Headlines kept the kids hoppin with some really catchy pop-punk stylings right before Conquest of Bread thundered into the room with a mix of bludgening krust metal and Death Row breakdowns. The floor had to be mopped in between sets from how beer soaked it had become and left a shiny reflection that beckoned some asses to slam and join it. Konflicto took the stage and the place turned into a riot. The electricity was undeniable as our guests from Reynosa refrained from destroying the building reminding us the venue was rented. I understood less than .01% of the lyrics being screamed but I agreed with what was being expressed amoungst everyone that night.
Desperation Bends
Spies Like Us, Channel One, Keg Party, IFV, Sharktooth
It might have been Keg Party's abruptness and the umpteen microphones on stage that lead everybody to feel there was a long set up time in between the groups also the cold weather outside just demanded to get people dancing. Then it started like the motor on a Chevy, the venue came alive with the bouncing and the skanking of boys and girls alike. For those that don't know 'skanking' resembles a kind-of toga party, soccer kicking-type dance done to an upbeat, really quite fun once you get it going. There was an upstroke of energy with every organ-filled, horn blasted note that sent everybody on the same hopping adventure.
The rudboy styles of the Spies Like Us were really an awesome fair well to the Christmas break, thanks to the singer (... I think) for the cd trade (some people be's brokes) they gave us a cd at the door but I couldn't leave without getting y'alls album.
Channel One
slowed the tempo down a notch and boogied through some great songs with a great cover of the Folgers coffee song
Big ups to Fly on the house warming, sorry someone stole your record, can we still party there?, Please. Good seeing the Wolf (I'm stopping by your work soon) and cool meeting Andy from ATX, thanks for the burn and isn't Slash great?
Guns and Roses - Estranged
South Texas Black Metal I grew up in Weslaco Texas ten years ago during the height of Pantera, Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, Columbine era, the first time I heard Cannibal Corpse on a walkman, I thought the band was trying to out-bark a blender. The town doesn't really have a rock / metal type venue so it's not unlikely to see a massive cave-man type lead singer in your living room interrupting your game of 2k3. STBM hosted an end of year show (Dec 20th) featuring the areas line up of bands with latin names and earbleeding riffs, the weather was perfect and the bass was tasty.
